Nature reserve Soufflenheim

SchwarzpappelnSoufflenheim golf course is a real oasis of undisturbed nature.

Every day stress ebbs quickly away out on the “18-holer” surrounded by old, sometimes gnarled trees and the idyllic lakes. There are no footpaths crossing the fairways and no electricity pylons marring the natural experience.

The golf course is home to a number of animals, very few of which are disturbed by flying golf balls.

In summer, a flock of Canada geese live on the course. The “gaggle” is up to 32 birds strong and they seem to like the lake between the 13th and 14th holes; certainly this is where they gather in autumn before starting their long flight to warmer climes.

Other permanent guests are a pair of swans with their young, and coypu (nutrias), which are occasionally mistaken for muskrats.
